About Maria

Maria Wirries is a singer, actress, dancer & songwriter.

Maria was born in Haiti and has spent her life training as a singer, actress, dancer, musician, and composer, while also being a rated competitive figure skater. She attended the Musical Theatre program at Penn State University and immediately joined the Broadway company of Dear Evan Hansen upon graduating. Back home in Sarasota, Florida, she has performed as a featured soloist with the Sarasota Orchestra, the Sarasota Orchestra Jazz Ensemble at the Players Theater, and at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. She received rave reviews for her featured solos with Gloria Musicae, Sarasota’s professional chorus, during their Italian tour at the Amalfi Coast Music and Arts Festival. Maria has also premiered original works from jazz pianist and composer, Dick Hyman, and Canadian-based composer, James Grant as well as performing her own original music all around the country.

While still in school, she was seen performing in the workshop for the Broadway revival of Once on This Island and leading the charge in Hot N’ Cole, a Cole Porter review, at the Sarasota Opera House. Her eclectic repertoire extends from Broadway to jazz, classical to country, and gospel to Americana. Outside of music, Maria’s other passions include biological sciences and activism for all minority communities. She attended the 2020 MARCH ON WASHINGTON and has been a constant voice for the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities in New York City, in addition to having pioneered the Penn State Students for Diversity organization while being a student. Finding ways to intersect her various interests and influences is what fulfills her the most as an artist.
